Located in the east of the city, the Stormont Estate is one of Belfast’s most prestigious and historic landmarks. Spanning over 224 acres of lush parkland, the estate is primarily known as the seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly, housed within the grand, neoclassical Parliament Buildings.
The estate offers a unique blend of political significance and natural beauty. Visitors can walk the iconic Prince of Wales Avenue—a mile-long, tree-lined driveway—to reach the main buildings, which were designed by Sir Arnold Thornely and opened in 1932. Beyond its political role, the estate serves as an award-winning public park, boasting woodland trails, the inclusive Mo Mowlam Play Park, and manicured gardens. It is also home to Stormont Castle, a 19th-century baronial mansion that serves as the headquarters of the Northern Ireland Executive.
